Dr. Marion Clement, ND

Naturopathic doctor at Natural Health Center

Dr. Marion Clement is a naturopathic doctor in general family medicine who enjoys caring for patients of all ages. She treats patients will all health complaints, both acute and chronic, and especially likes working with children, women’s health, and preventative medicine so that small problems stay small.

Belief that the body can heal itself

Dr. Clement enjoys seeing patients for digestive complaints, balancing hormones, boosting fertility, and all types of rashes. Dr. Clement provides wellness exams for children and adults, cervical cancer screening for women, and same-day appointments for acute illness. She truly enjoys trying to put the puzzle pieces together to make sense of chronic conditions.

Dr. Clement believes that if given the proper tools, the body can heal itself. The tools she frequently reaches for are diet and lifestyle changes, herbs, vitamin and mineral supplementation, and occasionally homeopathy. The scope of naturopathic medical practice in Alaska does not include the use of prescription medicines, however if that is the proper tool for the job, that is the tool she will recommend and she will refer you to someone that can provide that service.

Making sense of what the body is telling you
Dr. Clement enjoys working with patients to identify the things that are standing in the way of reaching their health goals. She likes collecting all of the symptoms a patient has so that together she and her patient can make sense of what the body is trying to tell them so that the root or roots of the problem can be addressed. This is the reason that she chose to pursue training in naturopathic medicine.

Within this medical philosophy, it is viewed that the body is designed to work and that all of the parts will work together. When the body isn’t working, or a part of the body isn’t working, it’s because identifiable internal or external forces are causing the body to change and make symptoms. Examples of these forces include:

  • Genetics

  • Emotions or thought patterns

  • The way your body reacts to stress

  • Infectious agents

  • The food you’re eating

  • The way you move your body

Helping patients find health and well-being

It’s the job of a naturopathic doctor to help patients identify the forces that are acting on their bodies and then educate them in ways to either eliminate these forces or change them in a way that can be beneficial to a person’s health and well-being.

Dr. Clement chose naturopathic medicine because it is patient-centered, meaning all the factors that make each patient individual and unique are taken into account when creating a treatment plan.

About Dr. Clement, naturopathic doctor

Dr. Clement joined the Natural Health Center in 2012 after earning her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. While attending Bastyr, Dr. Clement completed coursework in midwifery, but her apprenticeship was cut short due to the arrival of her first child. Due to this extra training and experience, Dr. Clement has special interest in fertility, pre-conception care, and supporting a healthy pregnancy.

Outside of the office, Dr. Clement loves spending time with her husband and three kids, baking sourdough everything (focaccia is her latest obsession), and taking long walks in the woods.
