Heidi Freeborn, FNP-C

Anchorage Family Nurse Practitioner

Heidi Freeborn is a Family Nurse Practitioner at Natural Health Center in Anchorage, where she offers a variety of services, including preventive screenings, wellness exams, and chronic and acute illness/disease management. She welcomes patients from the age of 6 months to 100+ years!

Heidi is the mother of two young sons: Perry and Theodore. She loves outdoor adventures in the mountains and woods, and is most fond of being out on the water. Both she and her husband were raised in Anchorage and are happy to be part of a community of lifelong friends and family.

Extensive nursing expertise

Heidi has an extensive nursing background that includes inpatient care for the acutely ill in various hospital settings, outpatient management at a local internal medicine clinic, and the care of children at a local elementary school. Additionally, she has volunteered as a nurse locally, nationally, and internationally. These years of nursing experience established a well-developed foundation of caring science, and shaped her understanding of the patient as a physical, mental, emotional, and social being.

Additional years of training led Heidi to earn a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Montana State University. National certification and state licensure allow her to autonomously diagnose and treat patients within her scope of practice.

Heidi previously worked as a provider in a family practice setting in Palmer, and recently relocated to Anchorage to begin practicing with the team at Natural Health Center.

A partnership with patients

When working with patients, Heidi begins by gathering an in-depth history and conducting an appropriate physical exam. She then orders diagnostic testing and/or referrals as appropriate, with the goal of creating a patient-centered plan of care in partnership with her patient and their family. This includes working closely with her colleagues and healthcare specialists at Natural Health Center to refer for additional services when they may benefit the patient.

A patient-centered plan involves identifying specific health goals and creating a path to reach them. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Heidi is able to prescribe medications and monitor their effects, as well as manage both short-term and long-term health concerns.

Collaborating to provide comprehensive care

Heidi’s goal for each patient is to support their overall well-being through accurate diagnosis, timely treatment, and preventive care. She values collaboration and contributes her medical expertise to the Natural Health Center team as they work together to provide coordinated and comprehensive care.
